How to get to Bimini and Grand Bahama by ferry and what you need to know

New requirements effective on June 19, 2022

Starting June 19, 2022, NO PASSENGER will need a Bahamas Health Visa anymore.

EVERY PASSENGER WHO IS COMPLETELY IMMUNIZED WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO TAKE A TEST.

Before going to The Bahamas, anyone over the age of 2 who hasn't been vaccinated will have to get either a negative RT-PCR test or a Rapid Antigen test that was taken no more than three days (72 hours) before travel and show the negative test results at check-in.

On the day of travel, passengers will need to bring the results of their Covid test and/or proof of their vaccinations (the original card). The government of The Bahamas has to ask for this. If you don't have the right travel documents, you might not be allowed to leave.

Children under the age of 2 don't have to take the tests.

*At the moment, you don't need a COVID test or vaccination to enter Florida by ferry.

May 31, 2022: Latest update from the Bahamian government about people taking the day trip from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas (both Bimini and Grand Bahama). People who only stay in the Bahamas for one day don't have to show a health visa when they arrive at the port, but they do have to show a negative result from a rapid antigen test.

All other passengers who stay in the Bahamas for at least one night must show the Health Visa when they arrive in the country.

As of May, the Bahamian government will no longer require Balearia Caribbean passengers on a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama to have a health visa. However, they will still need a negative RAPID test.

With this new plan from the permanent secretary of the Bahamas government, more people will be able to take a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama or to the United States.

Balearia Caribbean told us on May 23 that this new rule will apply to all passengers traveling between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini and Fort Lauderdale and Grand Bahama, in both directions.

NOTICE that Balearia Caribbean continues to apply all Health Visa requirements to passengers who spend at least one night in the Bahamas or Florida.

Describe what you need to do to visit Bimini, Grand Bahama, and the other islands of the Bahamas, depending on your vaccination status. Travel requirements update. There are rules about how to get into the Bahamas.

The health situation in the Bahamas or the United States could cause these rules and responsibilities to change. Please go to the websites of the US Ministry of Health, the Bahamas Ministry of Health, or the Balearia Caribbean Ministry of Health to get the most up-to-date information.

As this is a requirement from the government of the Bahamas, you may not be able to get on the ferry in Fort Lauderdale if you don't have the required travel documents.

By ferry, you can take children and babies to Grand Bahama and Bimini.

- If you want to travel with a child between the ages of 2 and 11, you must get a negative rapid antigen test or PCR test no more than 72 hours before boarding the ferry.

At the moment, no Covid test or vaccination is needed to get into Florida by ferry.

All passengers, including those who have been vaccinated and those who haven't, children, and babies, must wear a mask or face covering at all times at the ferry terminals and while on their ship.

Balearia Caribbean has added more dispensers of disinfectant to its terminals and lounges on board the ship to keep passengers safe and clean. Baelaria Caribbean has also put up methacrylate walls and informational signs in all areas of the ship, both public and private, to keep all passengers and crew members at a safe distance from each other.

Balearia Caribbean has changed when its ferries leave from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Bimini and Grand Bahama for Easter week in March (in the Bahama Islands). Here is a picture of what the new Balearia Caribbean schedule looks like.

At first, it was even said that men's clothing stores came up with the idea of Father's Day so they could sell more clothes. They wanted Father's Day to be like Mother's Day so they could sell more clothes. Even though there may be a sales goal beyond celebrating Father's Day, the original goal was to give this day the importance it deserves by recognizing the work and sacrifices fathers make for their children.

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States that is always celebrated on the last Monday of May. This day is a holiday to honor the men and women who died while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

A little bit of Memorial Day's past. In the middle of the 19th century, after the Civil War between the Confederates and the Unionists, Decoration Day was started to honor those who had died during the war. This date became a federal holiday in 1971, and on this day, people pay tribute to all the people who died while serving in the military.

On Memorial Day, it is very common for families and military members to visit cemeteries or memorials and take part in parades all over the country.

It's the unofficial start of summer for people in the United States.

If you want to do something special with your family on Memorial Day, plan a trip to Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, where everything is included.

Bimini ferry from $135 plus taxes on Mother's Day

From April 1, 2022 the price of the Balearia Caribbean ferry will go up.

Balearia Caribbean, the company that runs the ferry service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the islands of Bimini and Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, told us in a letter dated March 30, 2022, that oil and gas prices are driving up their operational costs, which is hurting their business model. As a result, Balearia Caribbean is being forced to raise the Operational Fees and Taxes and add a fuel surcharge for both passengers and cargo.

From April 1, 2022 on:

$10 Fuel Surcharge per passenger

$20 Fuel Surcharge per cargo piece

This price increase will affect all of Balearia Caribbean's routes: Fort Lauderdale to Bimini, Fort Lauderdale to Freeport (Grand Bahama), Bimini to Fort Lauderdale, Freeport (Grand Bahama) to Fort Lauderdale, Bimini to Freeport (Grand Bahama), and Freeport (Grand Bahama) to Bimini.

According to Balearia Caribbean, prices will be added to the total Taxes & Fees cost for each passenger's reservation. Remember that if you change the reservation date, the rate will change, and the customer will have to pay the difference.

This means that taking a ferry to the Bahamas for a vacation will cost more starting April 1. If you want to go to the Bahamas for Easter or Memorial Day but haven't made a reservation yet, you still have time and can save money by doing so. Remember that if you book ahead of time, you can save money that you can spend in the Bahamas.

Use our search engine to make your reservation right now, and then worry about what bikini to wear in the Bahamas.

The price of the Balearia Caribbean ferry went up on April 1, 2022.

3 day trip to Bahamas

Bimini day trip. Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the US state of Florida. The ferry from Fort Lauderdale is the fastest way to get there (30-45 minute drive from Miami). From Fort Lauderdale, there are two to four departures a week, depending on the time of year, and Balearia Caribbean is the company that does it. The trip from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini takes two hours and starts at the Fort Lauderdale Port Everglades docks.

The ferry drops you off at the pier in Alice Town, which is in North Bimini. From there, you can rent a golf car to explore this small island and go to one of it's beautiful beaches, one of it's famous beach clubs, where you can spend the day, or at the Hilton at World Resorts Bimini Hotel and Casino, where you can also spend the day for an extra fee.

During the ferry ride, there is an outdoor deck and a cafeteria where you can get hamburgers, soft drinks, or hot drinks. When you get to Bimini, you should eat a seafood salad or grilled fish on the beach. The lobster salad and conch salad is another dish you shouldn't miss. Put your feet in the white sand and let your senses be amazed by the luxury or the food.

Of course, you shouldn't forget to order a refreshing cocktail, where you can see how the people of the Caribbean live. Ask for a little bit of spice. Your drink will come to life with Tabasco, lime, and salt.

If you like water sports, you can snorkel, kayak, paddle surf, and swim with dolphins. For trips of 2 to 5 days, you should try other activities like diving, feeding sharks, or jet skiing.

Day trip on a ferry or a cruise

If you're trying to decide between a one-day ferry trip or a one-day cruise to the Bahamas, we'll tell you what we think are the pros and cons of each.

Ferry trip to the Bahamas for one day, Pros: It only takes two hours to get from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini, and three hours to get to Grand Bahama for a day trip. By taking a ferry to the Bahamas, you can spend as much time as possible in Bimini (6 hours) or in Grand Bahama (5 hours).

Pros: On cruise ships, there are usually pools, bars, and entertainment. Your trip starts as soon as you leave Miami for the Bahamas. Most ferries don't have pools and only have a small cafeteria.

Pros: When you go on a cruise, you can buy a "All Inclusive" package that includes drinks. You can get your drinks as soon as you get on the cruise.

Almost every day, you can take a ferry to the Bahamas for a day trip. Some days to Bimini and some days to Grand Bahama. One-day (really one-night) cruises leave less often and have fewer dates to choose from. Also, you can take a one-day trip to the Bahamas on the ferry any time of the year, whereas cruise ships only do these short trips (of one or two nights) when it's not high season.

A one-day trip to Bimini (or the Bahamas) by ferry or cruise is very different, as you can see. When choosing where to go on your next vacation in the Bahamas, you need to think about more than just the price. But most importantly, don't give up on your Bahamas vacation, whether you're staying at a resort like the Hilton in Bimini or going on a cruise in Nassau or Exuma.

Book your one day trip to the Bahamas as soon as possible and get the best prices and offers.

Schedule for the Balearia Caribbean ferry to Freeport, Bahamas

Bahamas's plan for kids Bimini ferry

Last changed on March 15th,

On the Balearia Caribbean ship that goes to the Bahamas, there is a special area for babies, children, and people under 18. A ferry ride to the Bahamas, whether for a day trip to Bimini or a family vacation on Grand Bahama island, is without a doubt the best way to spend a family vacation. But if you are traveling with children (for the best family vacations), you must follow Balearia Caribbean's rules for traveling with children, minors, babies, and pregnant women.

TRAVEL CATEGORIES FOR CHILDREN, INFANTS, AND MINORS

Children under 2 years old who are with an adult can ride for free. (They only pay taxes), Economy or Premium class, any time of year, one-way or return. Babies must sit on an adult's lap and don't have their own seat.

When kids ages 3 to 12 take a ferry, they pay only half of what an adult would pay, taxes not included.

Children over 13 pay the same price as adults (paying the same taxes as adults).

Balearia Caribbean 2nightbiminicruises.com lets babies from 0 to 6 months old on board.

PLEASE NOTE: If there are rough seas, strong winds, or bad weather, Balearia Caribbean may refuse to let the baby on board in order to keep the baby safe.

MINORS (people under 18) who are traveling with an adult who is not their parent or legal guardian must have a letter of consent signed by both parents and notarized at the time of travel. They must also bring a copy of their photo ID.

CHILDREN WHO ARE TRAVELING WITH ONLY ONE OF THEIR PARENTS NEED A NOTARIZED LETTER OF CONSENT FROM THE PARENT WHO IS NOT TRAVELING. If the parent who is not traveling does not have the Consent Letter, they must sign a Release Form, which is available at check-in.

If the other parent has no legal rights to the child (because they are dead or have sole custody, for example), any other relevant paperwork, like a court order, a birth certificate that only lists one parent, a death certificate, etc., would be helpful.

NOTES: The authorities might not ask to see this paperwork, but if they do and the traveler doesn't have it, they could be held until they can figure out why the child is traveling without both parents.

Adults who travel with children should also know that while the U.S. doesn't always ask for this paperwork, other countries, like the Bahamas, might. If travelers can't show notarized permission letters and/or birth certificates, they could be turned away.

Balearia Caribbean LTD, 2nightbiminicruises.com, and the owner of that website are not responsible for anyone who can't get on board because they don't have the consent letter. Send an email to customer.service@baleariacaribbean.com to get the Consent Letter Form for minors.

As of April 23, 2018, birth certificates are no longer a valid way to travel.

On board with the PREGNANCY WOMEN POLICY.

No one will be allowed to sail on the ferry if they are 31 weeks or more pregnant on the day of their trip. Before getting on the ship, pregnant women between 24 and 30 weeks must show a letter from their doctor saying how far along they are in their pregnancy and that they are healthy enough to travel on the ferry.

If you are going on vacation with your family and have questions about the paperwork you need to travel and enter the United States and/or the Bahamas, please don't be afraid to ask us. We will be happy to answer your questions.

Concerning FRS Caribbean.

For you to learn more about FRS Caribbean, we'll tell you that it started out on the Bimini ferry, which ran from the port of Miami to the port of North Bimini in 2015. In 2017, it started running the Miami-Freeport (Grand Bahama) ferry route. FRS Caribbean announced in July 2017 that it would start a new service to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. On that date, the "San Gwann," a very fast ferry, connected Miami and Bimini Island. It also started this route on this date, which took customers from Miami to Freeport in 3 hours.

The FRS Caribbean ferry San Gwann could hold 427 people who were sitting down. Also, this FRS Caribbean ferry had two bars on the passenger decks where people could buy snacks and soft drinks and a tax-free shop where they could buy gifts and souvenirs. FRS Caribbean also gave people on board the option to buy trips to the islands of Bimini and Grand Bahama. These trips included kayaking, rowing, jet skiing, snorkeling, and other water activities. All of these services are now also available on the Jaume II ferry that runs between Bimini and Grand Bahama for Balearia Caribbean.

FRS Caribbean says that "The islands of Bimini and Grand Bahama have both old and new things to see and do. At a high-end resort with a small-town feel, clients can have a glamorous vacation." On Thursday, November 9, 2017, FRS Caribbean started running between Miami and Freeport. Passengers can enjoy a fast, easy, and relaxing one-day trip on the HSC "San Gwann" for as little as $69.98 plus taxes and fees.

FRS Caribbean's main office was in Terminal H at Port Miami, where passengers could park their cars day or night. With this new line and the Bimini ferry line, FRS Caribbean kept betting on the growth of sea connections between Florida and the Bahamas. However, a couple of years later, it left the Caribbean and stopped all its operations.

About the FRS's past.

The FRS Group included FRS Caribbean. FRS Group is the leader in moving people, vehicles, and cargo over short distances of water. It is a global group of ferries and maritime transport. FRS Group runs 64 ships right now. Last year, they took 7.9 million people and 2.1 million cars on domestic and international ferry lines. FRS has its main office in northern Germany and has more than 1,500 employees in 24 operating subsidiaries in Europe, North America, North Africa, and the Middle East. The FRS fleet includes passenger ferries, high-speed vehicle and passenger catamarans, crew transfer vessels for the offshore wind industry, hovercrafts, water taxis, and solar electric ferries. FRS also has services all over the world for managing and running ports.

Bimini ferry

Schedule

Little by little, we're getting a better idea of how the Bimini ferry route from Balearia will work this summer, especially in July and August. These are the schedules, which depend a lot on the current restrictions on how we can move around. They could change if the measures taken by the different governments get better or worse.

These are the schedules planned by Balearia Caribbean for the Bimini ferry route in 2021:

Balearia Caribbean's new policy changes

June 09, 2021

Balearia Caribbean's new policy changes

Balearia Caribbean has made a new policy that makes it easier for you to change or cancel your trips to the Bahamas.

If you change your dates at least 24 hours before your boarding time, you won't have to pay anything extra.

If you change the date between 3 and 24 hours before boarding, you will have to pay a change fee.

If you want to change the date less than 3 hours before boarding, your ferry ticket will be considered lost.

Your ticket's terms and conditions will tell you how to cancel and get a refund.

Have any questions about the ferry to the Bahamas? You can contact Balearia Caribbean directly by sending an email to info@baleariacaribbean.com or customer.service@baleariacaribbean.com, or you can call (866) 699-6988.

On April 26, 2021, the Balearia Caribbean will change its policy for tourists who have been vaccinated.

With the goal of getting tourists back to the Bahamas islands, people who have had two doses of the vaccine will be able to go there without having to show a negative COVID 19 test result. This will start on May 1, 2019.

The islands of the Bahamas will let anyone into the country who has been fully immunized at least two weeks before traveling. The rest of the travelers must have a negative PCR that is valid for up to 5 days.

At a press conference, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said, "All that will be needed to enter the country for medical reasons is proof of vaccination and that two weeks have passed since the last dose." This measure aims to get tourism going as soon as possible, which is very important to the Caribbean archipelago.

The prime minister said that anyone who hasn't been fully vaccinated must show a negative PCR test taken within five days of their arrival in the Bahamas. "This plan will make a big difference in our economy and help cut down on the number of infections. When tourists are fully vaccinated, which means they've had all their shots, they'll be able to take part in events in a closed space without wearing a mask.

Several cruise lines (Royal Caribbean, Crystal Cruises, and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lines) are going to start sailing to the Bahamas in June and July of this year. This measure will go into effect at that time.

In the United States, be careful. On the other hand, this week the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) raised the level of health risk warning for the Bahamas to the highest level, 4.

Due to the current situation in the Bahamas, fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk of getting and spreading covid-19 variants. Because of this, the CDC says that all trips to the archipelago should be avoided. The United States says that you shouldn't go to 80% of the countries in the world.

Since the pandemic started, there have been 10,000 cases of infection and 194 deaths in the Bahamas, which has a population of about 400,000. There are just over 500 cases going on in the country right now. Not everyone agreed with this decision, but many parts of the Bahamas, which depend on tourism, want to get their economy going again as soon as possible.

As of April 26, 2021, less than 4% of the people living in the Bahamas have had the first dose of the vaccine.

Bahamas will let tourists in who have been vaccinated.

2 night bimini cruises

Relaunched: 2nightbiminicruises.com has started up again.

In February 2021, Balearia Caribbean will start running ferries from Florida to the Bahamas again. The boats will leave from the Fort Lauderdale port. The South Florida company runs ferry services from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini and from Port Everglades to Freeport (Grand Bahama island).

The company said last week that the Government of the Bahamas has given the go-ahead for the fast ferry service between Miami (Fort Lauderdale) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) in the Bahamas. On February 11, 2021, he will go to Freeport for the first time.

Balearia will start out by only sailing once a week, on Thursday, with a ferry. At the end of February, there will be another Sunday ferry service. The shipping company is ready to increase the number of weekly departures in March and April if there is more demand for passenger transportation.

At the same time, on February 10, 2021, Balearia will start running ferries between Florida and Bimini island again. At the moment, this route will have three departures per week in each direction. Both routes will be taken by the ferry Jaume II.

Balearia will start up again with a lot of new health and safety rules, like requiring face masks and electronic boarding passes, making people stay away from each other, checking the temperature before boarding, and only filling the ferry to 40% of its total capacity.

Balearia has also put plexiglass dividers in the common areas and between all the seats. Before, during, and after each crossing, the ship and the ferry terminals go through a deep and thorough cleaning process.

The company said that before, during, and after each trip, the ships go through "deep and extensive cleaning." Balearia says that Bureau Veritas has given it the Global Safe Site Covid-19 certificate. This makes it one of the first shipping companies to get this label. All travelers to The Bahamas must, among other things, fill out an electronic travel form and show proof of a negative COVID-19 test that is less than seven days old.

All passengers going from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Grand Bahama or Bimini, Bahamas, will have to show a negative PCR test for COVID-19 that was done at least 5 days before the trip. A travel health visa must also be applied for by each passenger.

NOTE: We recommend that all passengers check all the rules for entering and leaving the countries they are going to visit at the time of their trip, and always before they start making plans for their trip or buy ferry tickets.

You can visit the websites http://travel.gov.bs (Bahamas) and https://travel.state.gov to stay up-to-date and learn about safety and travel rules in the Bahamas (United States). The reopening of the shipping routes between Grand Bahama and the U.S. is expected to bring more people to Grand Bahama island, bring back the jobs that were lost because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and lessen the effects of the pandemic on the economy.

2nightbiminicruises.com is back up and running again.

Covid 19

When you book your trip to The Bahamas Islands, make sure to read, understand, and follow these rules, which are required by the government of The Bahamas.

As a GENERAL RULE, all travelers who want to go to the Bahamas should apply for a Bahamas Health Travel Visa. You can get this visa by going to the website travel.gov.bs. No matter how old they are, children and babies will also need their own health visa (although they are not required to take the Covid test due to their age).

VACCINATED PASSENGERS

People who have been fully vaccinated (two doses or one dose, depending on the vaccine) and have waited at least 14 days will be able to go to The Bahamas even if their COVID-19 test comes back negative.

People who have been vaccinated must show proof of vaccination (the original card and a copy of the vaccination card) along with an approved Travel Health Visa that was printed on the day of travel. As we've already talked about, the Bahamian government makes this a requirement. Health officials can refuse to let you on the ferry if you don't have the right travel documents.

If you're going to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, on a Sunday, you need to bring the original Travel Health Visa and Covid vaccination card as well as two printed copies.

UNVACCINATED PASSENGERS

All passengers over 10 who haven't been vaccinated must show a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test done no more than 5 days before their trip. (This rule doesn't have to be followed for kids under 10 years old.)

At the time of boarding in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and entering the country, passengers must show printed copies of the negative result of COVID 19 and of the Travel Health approved on the day of the trip. The health officials of the Bahamas Islands need these two printed reports: the Travel Health Visa and the result of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test. If the passenger doesn't have these papers, the health officials can refuse to let them on the plane or let them into the country.

If you're going to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, on a Sunday, you need to bring the original Travel Health Visa and Covid vaccination card as well as two printed copies.

BALEARIA'S COVID TAKES MEASURES

Balearia Caribbean has taken the following steps against Covid 19 in order to keep passengers on board as safe and calm as possible and because of the situation:

Before getting on the ship, a member of the Balearia Caribbean crew takes the body temperature of every passenger. If this temperature is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.7 degrees Celsius, the passenger will not be allowed to board the ferry.

All passengers must always wear a mask or face cover in the ferry terminals and while on the boats.

Balearia Caribbean has put more dispensers of disinfectant in all of its terminals and on board the ship to make sure that passengers are safe and clean.

There are also Plexiglas walls and informational signs in different parts of the ship to keep passengers and crew members at safe distances from each other.

You can call (866) 699-6988 or send an email to info@baleariacaribbean.com or customer.service@baleariacaribbean.com to get answers to any questions you may have.

REVIEWS

" We arrived at checkpoint 1 (Eller Dr./I-595): gate 24/7. The boat ride was nice and the ferry was spacious. One very important thing, at least for me, is that each seat has a charging station for your phone.Inside the boat you can buy excursions to do on the islands. You can also buy food and drinks to go. Although the line in the ship's cafeteria was very long and there were few employees attending."

Jessy

" One of the worst trips of my life. As there is only one ferry a day, you have to show up at the port at 6am. M to check in for your trip to Bimini. And for the round trip, our ferry left at 6:30 pm.The arrival times are only indicative since both the outward and the return we arrive late. Badly organized, late, if you have to check in, the collection of the suitcases is delayed. For the price of 25 dollars per suitcase I find it very expensive to wait for 45 minutes. I think the plane from Miami is better to go to Nassau."

Lisona

" Good alternative to travel to Bimini other than by private flight. We were happy to discover this fast and inexpensive way to travel other than the plane (which terrifies me).

The ferry journey was comfortable. On our return trip we were waiting to collect our bags and that took us almost an hour. Next time we will travel light. We would definitely take the ferry again."

Stephen

" My trip to the Bahamas was on August 21. We easily got the tickets but we had a problem when checking in because their computer system was not working.

Once on board the ferry they seem to be cleaned regularly, the seats are comfortable and large. You can buy drinks and snacks at the duty free shop. You can charge the cell phone and watch movies, which makes the trip easier for children.

The day is very long. Do not forget that you have to be an hour and a half before departure time and that disembarkation is very slow.."
